Santa Rosa

We stopped in Santa Rosa, a town of about 170,000 and too big for me. Leon worked here once and wanted to reminisce but the traffic was bad so we did most of our reminiscing about Charlie Brown. We toured the Charles Schutz museum which was well done, especially if you are a Snoopy fan.

There are 3,500 tiles in this wall covering created by an artist from Japan. Each one is part of a comic strip.

Sparky, as Schultz was called since he was young, created many of his characters from people he had known early in life. He also used much of the mid century furniture and decorations from his own home in his comic strips.

One wall that intrigued me was the one taken from a house where he had once lived. He had painted a mural on his child's wall and a later home owner decided to uncover it after learning of its existence. After she removed three layers of paint she found the mural he had painted using oil based paint. She donated the wall to the museum.

Snoopy and I talked about Sparky while sharing a cookie.
