We came across this sign in Bastrop and I laughed out loud. Where were we but on Farm Street, near the middle of town. It seems these chickens have lived here forever and belong to no one. I later realized there is a geocache here and got the scoop on the feathered friends on their site. They just wander yard to yard eating bugs and minding their own business and apparently cross the street for no reason. The city council proclaimed protected status four years ago and the chickens clucked merrily along.
But wouldn't you know, along came a rental property owner and created a ruckus. It seems she wants the council to appeal the proclamation. Now it comes down to who was first: the chickens or the people. Apparently it is still up in the air. No bar-b-q yet!
