Bodega Bay, Ca

My research before we left home let me know from others that if we could get a spot in the Doran Beach campground at Bodega Bay then we should. We decided it was time to visit the coast and we got a nice spot on the bay side of the campground.

It was a bit cloudy and chilly but not so much that we could not walk along the beach or find a spot out of the wind.

From our van we could watch the boats come in at the end of the day.

The next morning we took a ride to nearby Bodega Head and had a marvelous walk up to view the ocean. The whales migrate along this route until April so no whale watching for us.

The flowers were small but there was a gorgeous array of colors and the scents just kept me climbing the hill.

We learned that this is quite a fishing area. The main fish are salmon, rock fish, crab, sole and sea urchin. There are only about 3000 fishermen now.

And of course there are shops for the tourists.

We stopped at the Tides thinking that we might eat there. After we enjoyed the view and watched the sea lions beg and bark for food where they were unloading a ship next door we did have lunch - you guessed it!

We then drove the winding roads through the mountains and headed back inland. Such beautiful country.
